Abbott picks public policy chief in India

More pharma companies are said to be engaging with the government in the aftermath of Covid 19, according to industry experts.

Abbott Healthcare has picked Ishteyaque Amjad to head public policy for India, according to two people in the know.

The global pharmaceutical major is estimated to have $1 billion of sales in India and has products across the spectrum of chronic and acute care.

Amjad is currently the global head of corporate affairs at Godrej Group and has had previous stints with Coca Cola and Cargill.


He was also with the Indian army.

Abbott Healthcare had not responded to emailed queries. Amjad could not be reached for comment.

More pharmaceutical companies are looking to engage with the Government on healthcare-related policies especially in the aftermath of covid 19, according to industry experts.

Abbott bought out Piramal's generic drug business in India in a $3.7 billion deal in 2010. It has been at the forefront of developing Covid test kits after the pandemic struck. The company was established by physician and drug store proprietor Wallace C Abbott in the 1880's. It is headquartered in Illinois in the United States.
