India, which was the largest user of BT crop last year, should now develop its own intellectual property in the area of biotechnology to serve its interest in agriculture better, a leading US biotech expert said.

KOLKATA: India, which was the largest user of BT crop last year, should now develop its own intellectual property in the area of biotechnology to serve its interest in agriculture better, a leading US biotech expert said.
"India was the biggest user of BT crop last year. We want India to take the technology from us and develop its own IP so that it can do even better in agriculture," Martina Newell-McGloughlin, Director of University of California's biotechnology research and education programme, said on Friday.
