ICMR's Regional Medical Research Centre develops test kit to detect Omicron cases
The development has come at a time when the Omicron variant is making its presence felt in various states, with at least 38 cases being detected in the country so far.
They were working on it since November. They have tested 1000 samples of covid positive patient. The kit is likely to be available from next week in labs. The licensing process is on.
“ICMR-RMRC Dibrugarh has designed and developed a hydrolysis probe-based real-time RT-PCR assay for detection of the new Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) that can detect the new variant within 2 hours,” said Dr Biswajit Borkakoty, Senior Scientist, Regional Medical Research Centre, Indian Council of Medical Research (RMRC- ICMR), Dibrugarh.
