Pay-packet for doctors in remote areas likely to increase

Andhra Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Minister S Chandra Sekhar said that the government was seriously considering the option of offering attractive salaries for doctors opting for remote areas in the state.

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Minister S Chandra Sekhar said that the government was seriously considering the option of offering attractive salaries for doctors opting for remote areas in the state.

Addressing a seminar on "Healthcare in New Millennium" here, the minister said offering higher salaries would attract doctors and this would help in overcoming shortage of doctors in remote and rural areas.

The government has been giving priority to health in rural areas and various measures have been taken to reduce incidence of diseases with an emphasis of prevention, he said.

"We are trying to bring coordination between various departments to ensure sanitary conditions and avoid contamination of drinking water, Sekhar added.
