Hospitals, patients shift to COVID mode in Mumbai amid rising cases

LN Hirandandi Hospital said the spike in new cases has compelled the hospital to increase the number of Covid beds from 95 to 125 and ICU beds from 16 to 20.

The Tata Memorial Center in Mumbai has advised its oncology patients to consult their doctors online in view of the surge in Covid-19 infections.

On Wednesday, Mumbai reported 10,428 new Covid-19 cases and 23 deaths due to the disease. The spike in infections is once again threatening the city’s health infrastructure. Meanwhile, several large hospitals in the city are seeing patients voluntarily delaying elective surgeries. “At Hinduja, we have given a choice to our physicians whether they want to see patients in person or through online consultation. We have moved most of our routine checkup online,” said Gautam Khanna, CEO of Hinduja Hospital.

LN Hirandandi Hospital said the spike in new cases has compelled the hospital to increase the number of Covid beds from 95 to 125 and ICU beds from 16 to 20. “Earlier, our Covid dedicated floor was only one, now we have added one more floor,” Sujit Chatterjee, CEO of LH Hirandani Hospital, told ET.
