Do face shields protect against coronavirus?
1/5
Not that effective
A face shield can be effective only if there is a mask underneath. There is a lot of space around the face shield for air to come in and go out.
2/5
Air droplets
Almost 100 per cent of droplets which are under five micrometres (which get released even when people talk and breathe normally) will get past the visor of a face shield.
3/5
Coughing or sneezing
In addition, 50 per cent of the larger droplets (over 50 micrometres), which get released when people cough or sneeze, will go past the visor.

WHO advisory
The WHO has also confirmed that shields, which don’t completely cover the face, should be used in conjunction with a mask.
