AIIMS Delhi to conduct Phase 2 of Bharat Biotech's nasal vaccine trials
Bharat Biotech has come out with non-invasive vaccine, which is in the second phase of its trials. The second phase of the trial will be conducted at AIIMS, Delhi among other hospitals.
An application has been put out to the Ethics Committee of AIIMS. Bharat Biotech's intranasal vaccine received regulatory approval for second phase trials in August. The trials will begin in a couple of weeks after permission is granted by the committee.
The second phase of trials will be conducted on volunteers, with both doses being administered within a span of four weeks. The first phase was conducted on a healthy group of individuals between ages of 18 and 60. Data from the trials had been submitted to the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation. The government said that the data was well tolerated.
The adenoviral intranasal vaccine BBV154 is the first of its kind Covid-19 vaccine to undergo human trials in India. Experts have said that this non-invasive procedure can be very beneficial in generating a strong immune response at the site of virus entry.
