Generex gets CDSCO nod for non-injectable insulin

US-based Generex Biotechnology Corporation on Friday said it has received approval from the Central Drugs Standards Control Organisation (CDSCO) for selling its non-injectable insulin in the country.

NEW DELHI: US-based Generex Biotechnology Corporation on Friday said it has received approval from the Central Drugs Standards Control Organisation (CDSCO) for selling its non-injectable insulin in the country.

Generex Oral-lyn becomes the first oral insulin to get approval from the Drug Controller General of India for commercial use.

Unlike traditional insulins, which have to be injected in the body, Generex Oral-lyn can be taken orally with the help of a device, the company said in a release.

Generex has also entered into a product licensing and distribution agreement with Shreya Life Sciences, and both the firms are currently conducting post-approval clinical studies for commercial launch of the product in India by 2008.

"We look forward to working with Shreya to offer a safe and a pain free alternative to injectable insulins to Indian consumers," Generex President and Chief Operating Officer, Anna Gluskin said.
