With AIIB funding, Assam looks to cut losses in Distribution Network

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ceremonially distributed the letters of award for Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) aided and Smart Meter Projects of APDCL at a programme held at State Guest House No. 1 at Koinadhora in the city.

With Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) funded Rs 3284.04 crore project Assam is expecting reduction of Loss (Transmission Distribution) in Distribution Network from 20.13% (at present) to 15.34% (by 2025-26).

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ceremonially distributed the letters of award for Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) aided and Smart Meter Projects of APDCL at a programme held at State Guest House No. 1 at Koinadhora in the city.

The AIIB funded project will create a sustainable development of the state by reduction of Loss (T&D) in Distribution Network from 20.13% (at present) to 15.34% (by 2025-26). The project will also enhance the transformation capacity to cater the future load growth by 1765 MVA against present capacity of 4377 MVA.


On the other hand, the Rs 566.33 cr Smart Meter project will bring transparency in the meter reading and billing process, thereby enhancing consumers' trust in the company. Consumers will be able to monitor their electricity usage and expenses through smartphones. It will also help APDCL in energy auditing for accurate analysis of loss-making areas.

The Chief Minister stressed on the timely completion of all the projects for efficient power delivery to the consumers while cutting down transmission losses. He said that welfare projects must be completed in a mission mode and called on all stakeholders to take it up as a challenge.
