West Bengal concerned over Coal India's new pricing mechanism

"We are concerned over the new system. But the picture is not yet clear as we have not seen the notification of price," state power minister said.

KOLKATA: West Bengal today expressed concern over Coal India's switching to new pricing mechanism from useful heat value to gross calorific value that was expected to push coal price.

"We are concerned over the new system. But the picture is not yet clear as we have not seen the notification of price," state power minister Manish Gupta said.

Concerned with the situation, the minister has apprised this to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a meeting.

He said CIL raised prices suddenly without consulting with the state government and feared rise in coal price.

"We demand a coal regulator to check such acts," Gupta said.

Currently, the state-owned power producer West Bengal Power Development Corporation consumes coal worth Rs 10 crore daily.
