Videocon to set up solar power plant in West Bengal
The Videocon Group has announced setting up of a solar power project in West Bengal at Rs 500 crore.
Videocon would set up a 20-MW solar power project at a cost of Rs 500 crore in Purulia-Bankura region on 150 acre.
Chairman of Videocon Group Venugopal Dhoot told reporters here the industrial house had already invested Rs 600 crore in projects like IT special economic zones coming up at Siliguri.
The group's largest investment in the state, a steel project was also on track, Dhoot said.
According to Dhoot, construction work on the Rs 15,000-crore steel plant would start during Diwali. For this, the company would require 4000 acre.
The steel plant would be constructed in Asansol. Dhoot said acquisition of land would be done by the company with help from the state government.
He added that the company had sought allocation of coal blocks from the Centre. Iron-ore linkage would not be a problem, he said.
He said 500 people would get employment on completion of the IT Park at Siliguri.
Regarding the semi-conductor unit, the company would seek water subsidy from the state.
