NEW DELHI: The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has signed an agreement with Japan Bank for International Cooperation to finance rural electrification projects in India.
Japan Bank for International Cooperation (India) Chief Representative Kikuo Nakagawa and USAID India Mission Director George Deikun signed the agreement that provides for supporting development and accelerating reform efforts in Indian power sector, a US Embassy statement said.
The agreement would help further the country's power sector agendas to advance infrastructure and rural development to the poor, the statement said.
The agencies would work together in areas of alternative financing of rural electrification projects, joint pilot projects in distribution reform and upgrades, capacity development of power sector professionals and sharing of knowledge and best practices.
Collaboration and joint funding of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects is another area of cooperation affirmed in the agreement, the statement said.
