UP power workers to strike against privatisation of Anpara project

Uttar Pradesh Power employees today threatened to go on strike against the move to privatise the Anpara C power project.

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Power employees today threatened to go on strike against the move to privatise the Anpara C power project.

The meeting of the Vidyut Karamchari Samyukt Sangharsh Samiti here decided to go on strike in case M/S Lanco, which has been awarded the contract for the Anpara C project goes ahead with the construction work, media convenor of the Samiti, Shailendra Dubey said.

The move to privatise the project has delayed it by ten years and it should be handed over to the state's power generation corporation which would complete all necessary work in lesser time, Dubey said.

The meeting apprehended that since Lanco has to start work before November 26 as per the clause of the agreement, the company would try to start construction work forcibly, he said.

Dubey recalled as to how alleged Lanco workers with the help of police had tried to enter the premises in July this year triggering a strike by employees.

He threatened that Anpara employees would go on immediate strike in case the same was repeated and power engineers and employees all over the state would join them within 24 hours.
