Two CESC units attain country’s top five capacity utilisation in August
Budge Budge Generating Stations capacity utilisation during August was 96.7%.
Commenting on development at the coal-based power station which supplies power to CESC licensed area in Kolkata, Rabi Chowdhury, managing director – generation, CESC said: “The three coal-based units of Budge Budge Generating Station are consistent producers of power. Both in July and August 2019, the station was ranked first amongst all thermal power plants in India based on capacity utilisation.”
The first unit of CESC’s Budge Budge (250 MW) was commissioned in 1997, followed by the second unit (250 MW) in 1999 and the third unit (250 MW) in 2009.
According to data compiled by the Central Electricity Authority, Barsingsar Lignite Generating Station attained the country’s second-highest capacity utilisation in August at 96.63%, followed by Painampuram Thermal Power Plant at 93.66%. Amarkantak – Extension Thermal Power Station attained the fourth highest capacity utilisation at 93.36%, while Haldia Energy (93.32%) was the fifth and SGPL TPP (93.29%), sixth.
