Tata Power's generation increases 62 per cent in first half of 2013-14

NEW DELHI: Tata Power today said it increased electricity generation by 62 per cent in the first six months of current financial year.

The country's largest private power producer generated 22,738 million units of electricity in the first half compared with 14,029 million units a year earlier, Tata Power said in a statement.

The company said its installed capacity stands at about 8,521 MW.

"Subsidiaries CGPL (Coastal Gujarat Power Ltd) and MPL (Maithon Power Ltd) have continued to contribute significantly to the increase in generation capacity, with 11,574 million units and 2,930 million units, respectively, for H1 FY14," it said.

CGPL operates the 4,000 MW ultra mega power project at Mundra in Gujarat while MPL runs the 1,050 Maithon plant in Jharkhand.

Electricity generated from clean energy sources stood at 1,439 million units, or about 6 per cent of the total, in the six months ended September. The utility aims to have 20-25 per cent of its power generation from sources that don't release greenhouse gases.
