Mumbai: Tata Power has resumed operations at its 4,150 MW Mundra thermal power plant after a shutdown of nearly nine months, the company said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday.

The Mundra facility, operated by its subsidiary Coastal Gujarat Power Ltd, had halted operations on July 2, 2025, leading to sustained financial losses during the period of closure.

The plant, located in Kutch, Gujarat, is one of India’s largest coal-based power projects, comprising five units of 800 MW each and supplying electricity to multiple states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana.

The restart follows signing of supplementary power purchase agreements (PPAs), particularly with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd.

The Gujarat cabinet had approved the revised agreement last month, paving the way for the plant’s revival. Similar agreements are also being pursued with other states.

The move comes as the government pushes to maximise electricity generation amid rising demand.
