'Sustainable energy needed in good measure'

Sustainable engery required in good measure as conventional sources of energy are fast depleting.

SHILLONG: Sustainable engery would be required in good measure as conventional sources of energy were fast depleting, Meghalaya Agriculture minister Manirul I Sarkar said on Monday.

In view of a report that fossil fuels would be exhausted in the next 10 years, the use of non-vonventional sources of energy like bio-gas, bio-masses and wind power would become the order of the day, Sarkar said in his address on the occasion of Renewable Energy Day, 'Rajiv Gandhi Akshya Urja Divas' organised by Meghalaya Non-conventional Rural Energy Development Agency (MNREDA) here.

Sarkar lauded former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi for his vision of developing non-conventional power and his efforts towards providing power to each and every household in the country.

He said introduction of effective renewable technologies would be beneficial to humanity, as they free the environment from the harmful effects of pollution.

The day was marked by a renewable energy run participated by students and power exhibition by the MNREDA.
