SunEdison ties up with Tata Power to supply solar power to light up Delhi

NEW DELHI: SunEdison Inc, the world's largest renewable energy development company, on Thursday said it has signed a long-term agreement with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd, the power distribution arm of Tata Power, to supply 180 MW of solar power a year.

Tata Power Delhi Distribution is one of the two electricity suppliers in Delhi.

SunEdison said it will build the solar power plant for the project in Madhya Pradesh. The plant will generate 375,000 megawatt-hours a year, the company said.

SunEdison will supply 90 MW of power to the distribution company at a delivered tariff of Rs 6.49 per kWh and the remaining 90MW at a delivered tariff of Rs 6.52 per unit.

The company aims to achieve the financial closure for the project in six to nine months, said Pashupathy Gopalan, president of Asia-Pacific and sub-Saharan Africa at SunEdison. The project is likely to be completed in a year-and-a-half, he said.

The plant is expected to eliminate emission of approximately 300,000 metric tonne of carbon dioxide per year, the company said.

The operation and maintenance of the solar power plant will be performed by SunEdison Services.
