SunEdison launches solar water pump for agriculture sector

SunEdison announced the launch of photo-voltaic based solar water pump aimed at serving the agriculture sector.

CHENNAI: Solar technology manufacturer and provider, SunEdison today announced the launch of photo-voltaic based solar water pump aimed at serving the agriculture sector.

"The Solar Water pump will address a significant market, and help increase crop yield by delivering reliable irrigation without dependence on expensive diesel fuel or intermittent electrical power supply", city-based SunEdison said in a statement.

"Our solar water pumps empower farmers to grow cash crops that require predictable irrigation and enable them to utilise land that they previously could not irrigate", SunEdison, Asia Pacific, GCC and South Africa, President, Pashupathy Gopalan said in a statement.

The Solar pumps intended for use in rural environments, feature rugged structural design and are available in 3HP (horsepower), 5HP, 7.5HP and 10HP variants, he said.

SunEdison has developed a 1 MW solar power plant suspended over the Narmada Canal and executed the first Solar PPA (power-purchase agreement) in India commissioned at Standard Chartered Bank, Chennai.
