Solar installation crosses 1 Giga Watt in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu

Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal said that in the last two and half years, the solar energy capacity has been quadrupled.

NEW DELHI: Gujarat, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu have crossed 1 Giga Watt (GW) in solar power installations while Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh are close to this mark, the government told the Rajya Sabha quoting data as on December 31, 2016.

Replying to questions, Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal said that in the last two and half years, the solar energy capacity has been quadrupled.

He said the government has also revised the targets for 2022 from 20,000 MW to 1 lakh MW.

The states have been provided targets to achieve this goal, he said.
