Sasan UMPP: Tata Power to move Supreme Court
Tata Power said it will move SC against Delhi High Court's dismissal of its petition, which challenged green signal given to Reliance Power to divert surplus coal from captive mines of Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project for use in other projects.
"We would be filing an appeal before the Supreme Court as we strongly believe that the issue has larger national ramifications," Tata Power said in a statement.
It had moved the High Court in the first week of January, terming the Government's decision "arbitrary" and "illegal".
Tata Power, the country's largest private sector power firm, said the go-ahead given to Anil Ambani-led RPower "has disturbed the fairness, transparency and the level playing field, and is not in accordance with the bidding documents".
The company said the issue assumes further significance in view of the public-private-partnership model being adopted for the country's infrastructural development.
"We believe that we have not suppressed any facts or provided any incorrect information. In fact, the petition all through proceeds on the basis that those very facts exist," Tata Power said.
The coal-based Sasan project is being planned along with 11 other projects to meet the country's electricity needs. RPower had won the bid to build the Rs 24,000-crore Sasan UMPP.
