Renewables power ahead

Last year, renewable power installments (including hydro power) increased by 9% over 2015 to nearly 2,017 gigawatts.

The world is now adding more green energy capacity each year than it adds in new capacity from all fossil fuels combined, according to REN21, a United Nations-backed report. In 2016, renewables accounted for an estimated nearly 62% of net additions to global power generating capacity. Last year, renewable power installments (including hydro power) increased by 9% over 2015 to nearly 2,017 gigawatts.
