MUMBAI:Reliance Energy (REL) has withdrawn regular load shedding in Goregaon, Malad and Kandivli (West) areas as it got an additional transmission outlet at Malad. REL has commissioned the outlet given by Tata Power Company (TPCL) on Wednesday and taken power to its feeders from the outlet.

“The company will gradually load up to 10 MVA (mega volt-ampere) through this outlet. On Wednesday, the company has avoided load shedding in these areas,” said company official. REL has written a letter to the state energy secretary to get more transmission outlets to avoid further inconvenience to large number of consumers.

The controversy had begun in 1996, when REL asked for two outlets each at Vikhroli and Malad. Later they requested outlets at Saki, Chunabhatti and Versova, but TPCL asked to sign agreement. REL had approached Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC).

MERC had appointed an expert group from IIT Mumbai to study the issue and later they had roped in Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company, the state transmission utility, to resolve the issue. The issue was not resolved.
