NEW DELHI: Central Power regulator Central Electricity Regulatory Commission on Friday said then regulations for tariff for 2009-2014 will be finalised soon.

"The regulations for terms and conditions of tariff for 2009-2014 would be finalised shortly," Pramod Deo Chairperson Central Electricity Regulatory Commission told reporters here.

He added that the tariff would be designed to minimize micro management lead to light handed regulation.

Deo emphasised on the importance of grid discipline and said, "Our priority area would be to focus on grid discipline in the power sector in the country", adding electricity is highly capital intensive industry and it is very difficult to standardise costs because of various factors.

CERC is issuing notice to Madhya Pradesh and Meghalaya for violation of Commission's direction on payment of Unscheduled Interchange charges (a penalty to be paid by any utility for drawing more power than the state's entitlement).

The commission is exploring the possibility of benchmarking various components of project cost to induce efficiency in management of project cost.
