'Rajasthan to provide power to other states by 2009-10'
The Hadauti region of Rajasthan would emerge as the power zone of the country in three years enabling the state to sell power to neighbouring states by 2009-10, the power minister G S Khinvsar said on Wednesday.
Apart from the power production in Kota and Rawatbhata, around 3,000 MW of additional electricity would be added to it when the two districts of Baran and Jhalawar start producing power from plants there, Khinwsar told a press conference here.
The power minister said that by August 2008 the Chabra power unit in Baran district would start generating 500 MW and setting up of its third and fourth units would commence by this year end.
The work on setting up a 1,200 MW power unit in Jhalawar would also start by this year end in Kawai, he said.
After these units started power generation it would result in tremendous saving to the state which at present was paying for buying power from other states between Rs 6 and 7 per unit while the production cost of power in the state came hardly around Rs 2 To Rs 2.50 per unit, he said.
