Rajasthan to be power surplus by 2012

The Rajasthan government is currently working on a plan to become a power surplus state by the year 2012, minister of industries of the state Narpat Singh Rajvi said.

KOLKATA: The Rajasthan government is currently working on a plan to become a power surplus state by the year 2012, minister of industries of the state Narpat Singh Rajvi said.

Rajvi, while speaking at a roadshow organised by Ficci here today, said that the state would add 4500 MW of power for which the government would invite private investors.

He said that an amount of Rs 5000 crore would also be invested to reduce transmission and distribution losses by less than five per cent in urban and 25 per cent in the rural areas.

Rajvi also said that the government was finalising a policy on private-public-partnership (PPP) initiative in the social sector.

Other areas where the state government was focussing were textiles, tourism, and information technology.
