FEROZEPUR: The Punjab government would revive all closed sugar mills in the state as discussions were going on with some private companies for giving them out on lease, Bikram Singh Majithia, minister for water supply and sanitation, information and public relations, science and technology said today.

Talking to media persons at the residence of senior Akali leader Hari Singh Zira, Majithia said that arrears of all sugar mill employees would also be paid soon.

Majithia was here to lay the foundation stone of 66 kv sub station at Village Bhago Ke, the land for which was given free of cost by village panchayat.

At the occasion, replying to query regarding shortage of power, he said that the government was encouraging industrial houses to establish their own power plants like Biogas plant to meet their requirements so that the same electricity being consumed by them could be transferred to farmers to meet their need.

In addition to that, the state government was making concerted efforts to bridge the gap between demand and supply of electricity by bringing new power projects while completing the existing ones, he said.

Majithia also said that 500MW Lehra Mohobat stage-II shall be commissioned by the end of this year, and new 1200 MW thermal plants were coming up at Talwandi Sabo, Nabha, Abohar and Rajpura for which over Rs 2000 crores have been earmarked.
