PUDUCHERRY: The Department of Electricity here would use world bank funds for laying underground cables and erect additional towers to ensure that there was no interruption in power supply as is experienced now in the town areas.

Lt Governor A.K.Singh directed the Superintending Engineer in Electricity department to 'expedite laying of the cables and also erection of the additional transformers,' a release from the department said.

He reviewed at a meeting yesterday the current outages in power supply.

The release said a stand by repair team would also be formed soon to maintain round the clock supply of power in Puducherry.

Additional power supply arrangements, including activation of the transformer on the north boulevard and commissioning of additional transformers in Solai Nagar, would be the other strategies the department would adopt to prevent disruption or tripping in supply.
