Provided all documents to CAG, will continue to cooperate: BSES

BSES said it was "surprised" by the CAG's stand that it was not cooperating with the auditing body as per a Delhi High Court order.

NEW DELHI: Anil Ambani’s Delhi electricity distribution companies (discoms) BSES Yamuna and BSES Rajadhani said they were providing documents to the CAG and surprised that the national auditor had told the Delhi High Court that they were not co-operating. The discoms said they shared the financial records of 11 years in over 10,000 pages and soft format with Comptroller and Auditor General. The companies that cater to 32 lakh consumers in Delhi said that they are regularly responding the queries from CAG.

BSES discoms had initially decided not to comment when the CAG told the Delhi High Court that they and Tata Power Delhi Distribution – the three firms that supply power to the capital region – were not co-operating in the audit of their accounts. Tata Power responded immediately on Monday and said it was fully co-operating.

BSES, in its statement on Tuesday, said, “We are extremely surprised at the stand taken by CAG Counsel in front of the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi. BSES discoms had made a detailed entrylevel presentation to senior CAG officials on February 13, 2014.

The in-depth presentation, besides describing the journey since 2002, also dwelled on various measures to reduce AT&C losses, improve power supply, network upgradation, consumer satisfaction and major activities in their operational areas. They were also informed about the savings in subsidy burden to the government of Delhi due to additional revenue accrued on account of reduction in losses.”

Arvind Kejriwal asked for a CAG probe in the accounts state’s discoms as soon as he became Delhi chief minister. Discoms rushed to high court to prevent the government audit in their accounts.

BSES discoms claimed that they do not have funds to procure power and the city was facing darkness. In a sharp reaction, Kejriwal suggested state’s electricity regulator to terminate licenses of BSES and Tata Power discoms. “In their confirmation, CAG informed that objective-wise requisitions will be issued to help the management in speedy production of records.
