Private firms offer 4,600 MW hydro projects to NHPC

The company's chairman and managing director K M Singh said private firms have approached NHPC to sell their plants.

NEW DELHI: State-run NHPC is in talks with private firms such as Jindal Power, Lanco Infratech and Nagarjuna Construction to take over over 4,600 MW of hydro power projects in states like Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.

The company's chairman and managing director K M Singh said private firms have approached NHPC to sell their plants.

"In most of the states, work on hydro projects has not started. The private firms are looking at relief by offering the projects to NHPC,” he said. “NHPC has to consider if it is economically viable. The other option is to give construction consultancy."
