Power woes mount as Dadri plant trips

NEW DELHI: The power situation in the national capital worsened today when supply from Dadri plant dropped by around 1,000 MW due to technical problems.

The problem was aggravated as one 220 KV line that supplies electricity to south and east Delhi tripped.

The two units of Dadri plant did not function and this resulted in shortage of power supply.

Power cuts were reported from various parts of the city even as the power demand hovered at around 4600 MW.

"To fill the gap between demand and supply, power distribution companies were drawing heavily from the grid to meet the load," an official said.

In south Delhi, areas like Lajpat Nagar, East of Kailash, Munirka, New Friends Colony were affected by power cuts.
