Power utility extends load-shedding
The power crisis in Mumbai has worsened. With no easing of demand, the state power utility on Friday extended load-shedding hours across the state.
Cities will face power cuts for 4.5 to 7 hours a day whereas for rural areas, it will be anything over 13 hours everyday. There is no respite. Temperatures across the state have been going up over the past week. This has added enormous strain on electricity demand, a government official said.
On Friday, the state recorded electricity demand to the tune of 14,000 mw as against availability of 9,000-9,300 mw. This has left us with no option but to switch off supply, he said. On Wednesday, demand crossed a peak of 15,280 mw against an availability of 10,299 mw, taking the shortfall to 4,981 mw.
Mahavitaran is fully aware of the hardship being faced by people due to increased load-shedding.
