Power tariff waived off for border migrants in J&K

Giving a reprieve to thousands of migrants on the border of Jammu division the state government has decided to waive off the electricity tariff for the period of their displacement.

JAMMU: Giving a reprieve to thousands of migrants on the border of Jammu division the state government has decided to waive off the electricity tariff for the period of their displacement.
"The electricity tariff of border migrants of Jammu would be waived off for the period of their displacement between 2001 and 2005," senior officials of the power ministry said adding the step was taken due to their poor financial condition.
As many as 20,000 border migrants have been living away from their hamlets along the border in Akhnoor belt of Jammu district after Kargil war due to shelling and subsequent mining in 2001 border build up, they said.
