Power Grid subsidiary POSOCO to be made separate entity

NEW DELHI: The Power Ministry will soon approach the Cabinet for allowing hiving off Power System Operation Corporation Ltd from state-run Power Grid into a separate entity.

Post approval, POSOCO is proposed to act as an independent transmission regulator.

"We are looking for private sector participation in the transmission sector, therefore there is a need for a regulator which POSOCO cannot perform if it works as a subsidiary of Power Grid," Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said at a conference.

The objective of POSOCO is to ensure integrated operation of regional and national power systems to facilitate transfer of electric power within and across the regions and trans-national exchange of power with reliability, security and economy.
