Power discoms petition for 15-20 per cent hike

According to DERC chairperson P D Sudhakar, the electricity watchdog has started the process of scrutinizing the ARR petitions.

NEW DELHI: Come January, Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission begins the process for electricity tariff revision in the city. All three discoms, BSES Yamuna, BSES Rajdhani and Tata Power Delhi, submitted their average revenue requirement petitions for financial year 2015-16 last week in which the three companies have sought a tariff increase of up to 15-20%. DERC said it's yet to admit the petitions and that the initial tariff hikes sought by the discoms are premature.

According to DERC chairperson P D Sudhakar, the electricity watchdog has started the process of scrutinizing the ARR petitions. "The process can take up to a month," said Sudhakar. The initial tariff hikes sought by the discoms may change during the verification process, added the chairperson.

"It's still premature to say that this is what the discoms have sought," Sudhakar said. Once the petitions are admitted, a public hearing will be held—in June-July—and tariff announced.
