There was a power failure at 11.25 am for 45 minutes in NDMC area. PIB decided to source electricity from generators during the power cut as the NDMC supply was unstable.

NEW DELHI: The power cut during power minister Piyush Goyal's press briefing that made news on social media on Friday was a result of power failure in area controlled by New Delhi Municipal Council ( NDMC), an official statement said.

Power tripped thrice for a few seconds during the minister's press conference in the New Media Centre of Press Information Bureau ( PIB) marking achievements of power, coal and renewable energy ministries in two years of NDA government.

In a lighter vein, Goyal said,"My wife tells me that power should go off once in every programme that I hold so that I can be sure that I have miles to go before I rest and sleep. I don't know whether they have made it a practice or guidance or it is actually gone."

A PIB statement said,"Director General, Press Information Bureau had earlier in the afternoon ordered an enquiry into the power incident and sought a report from the officials of PIB soon after the press conference."
