Power connection on demand soon, pay charges in EMIs: Power Minister Piyush Goyal

The minister said in the campaign that electricity will be available to everyone who applies for it, government is working on the simplification process.

NEW DELHI: The government will launch a campaign to offer electricity connections to economically weaker families in easy equated monthly installments (EMIs), Power Minister Piyush Goyal said on Friday.

The minister said the campaign, agreed in-principal by all states, would ensure electricity connections to all those who apply for it. Goyal had earlier said the government is working on simplifying application process for electricity connections.
Goyal said he favors subsidies to the farming community, which constitutes a small portion of the national demand.
He said states must make their operations efficient to bring down cross-subsidy charges to attract industries.
