Post-win in SC against Ansaldo Caldaie, NTPC to award orders worth Rs 22,000 cr

NTPC plans to award 22,000 crore equipment orders in the next 45 days as it won legal battle in Supreme Court against Ansaldo Caldaie India.

NEW DELHI: NTPC plans to award Rs 22,000 crore equipment orders in the next 45 days as it won legal battle in Supreme Court against Ansaldo Caldaie India, which sought legal remedy after it was disqualified from participating in a large tender.

If NTPC places orders as planned, which include main plant equipment of about Rs 16,000 crore and civil work contracts of Rs 6,000 crore for four NTPC projects, it will be a big relief for equipment suppliers who have been starved on new contracts in the current fiscal year. A part of the planned orders may be awarded at the fag end of the fiscal year.

NTPC will call fresh price bids from BHEL, L&T and BGR Energy that had technically qualified for Rs 9,000-crore contract to supply nine boilers of 660-mw each. BHEL will bag contracts for at least four boilers, NTPC chairman and managing director Arup Roy Choudhury said on Thursday.

Another Rs 8,000-crore contract for nine turbine generators will be placed on Bharat-Forge-Alstom, BHEL and JSW-Toshiba. Besides, the company will soon invite bids to award balance of plant contracts, he said.

Shares of BHEL gained 2.85% on the Bombay Stock Exchange while BGR Energy scrip ended about 6% up. NTPC shares rose 0.6% while those of L&T ended flat on the market that closed down 0.27%.
