Peak demand may reach 230 GW in December, 237 GW in January and 234 GW in February, a government official told ET. The projections could change in line with moderation in weather forecast, another official said.
Last year, peak demand recorded in December was around 214 GW. January this year recorded peak demand of 222.4 GW followed by a similar demand recorded in February.
The power ministry sees no issues with the availability of capacity to meet demand in the winter and is taking steps to ensure that there is no shortfall, an official said. Electricity demand has risen in the last 10 days with the peak remaining over the 200-GW mark.
