BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa government on Wednesday gave go ahead to the 4000 mw ultra mega thermal power plant proposed to be set up by NTPC in the coal-rich Sundargarh district.
The clearance to the project was accorded at a high-level official meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, state Energy Minister Suryanarayan Patra said the government had given the go ahead after the NTPC agreed to share one-third of the generated power to the state at nominal price.
This had been the state's demand and the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) would be signed between the Grid Corporation of Orissa Ltd (GRIDCO) and Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and NTPC.
For execution of the project, it is likely to cost over Rs 18,000 crore. It would commence within a month, he said adding it was scheduled to be completed in one single phase by 2012.
