Only 13% capacity addition target achieved till July 2013

The country has been able to achieve 132 mw of hydel capacity till July 2013 and 1,380 mw of thermal capacity totaling 2,512 mw for the country. In the hydel category, only about 11% has been achieved during the first five months of current fiscal. On the thermal power generation front only 15% of capacity additional target has been achieved.
At present, the total installed capacity is 225,793 mw of which thermal power generation capacity is about 68.14% at 153,848 mw This is divided into three category of coal, gas and diesel. While coal is 58.59% (132,288 mw), gas is about 9.02% (20,359 mw) followed by diesel 0.53% (1,199 mw). About 2.12% is from nuclear sources at 4,780 mw, hydel is some 17.55% at 36,623 mw. About 12% of power generation capacity is from renewable sources 27,541 mw.
