NTPC to add 3,000 MW power for commercial use in FY'09
State-run NTPC will add 21 billion units of power for commercial use in the current financial year, a move that would give the PSU an additional revenue of Rs 500 crore annually.
The company plans commercial operation of its various units in Sipat, Kahalgaon and Bhilai which would generate 3,000 MW power in this fiscal, NTPC Chairman and Managing Director R S Sharma told reporters.
The commercial operation of these units in three power plants would benefits Chhattisgarh, Goa and other eastern and western states.
Electricity from two units of 500 MW each of the 1,000 MW Sipat Super Thermal Power Project Stage -II would be added to the grid for commercial purpose, he said adding the first 500 MW unit of the said project in Chhattisgarh has already started commercial operation last week.
The unit touched its full load on May 30 and the second unit is expected to start commercial operations by October this year.
Union Minister for Power Sushilkumar Shinde had earlier announced that Chhattisgarh would get at least 300 MW out of the 1,000 MW Stage-II capacity.
Besides this, three units of 500 MW each of the 1,500 MW Kahalgaon Super Thermal Power Project would also be commercialised in 2008-09.
NTPC had commissioned the first 500 MW unit of Stage II, phase I of Kahalgaon Project in April last year.
