NTPC & TNEB JV Vallur super thermal power project to ease TN's power woes

The first 500mw unit of the Vallur super thermal power project is at an advanced stage and will shortly contribute to the Tamil Nadu grid.

CHENNAI: The first 500mw unit of the Vallur super thermal power project, a joint venture between NTPC and the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, is at an advanced stage and will shortly contribute to the Tamil Nadu grid, NTPC commercial director IJ Kapoor said here after a meeting with chief minister Jayalalithaa Jayaram.

NTPC presently meets about 18% of Tamil Nadu's power requirement. The chief minister sought an additional allocation of 100mw from NTPC in view of the power shortage in the state. NTPC has an installed capacity of over 36,000mw, accounting for 28% of the electricity generated in the country.
