Power-major NTPC plans to increase its generation capacity to exceed 75,000mw by ’17, from its current capacity of 26,194mw. The plan will cost Rs 1,600bn.

NEW DELHI: Power-major NTPC plans to increase its generation capacity to exceed 75,000mw by ’17, from its current capacity of 26,194mw. The plan will cost Rs 1,600bn.

As part of theprogramme, the power major will focus on securing fuel supplies by acquiring coal mines abroad and oil/gas exploration blocks, as well as participation in the gas value chain abroad.

It proposes to add the nearly 50,000mw by concentrating on large projects using super critical and ultra super critical parameters, securing several ultra mega power projects — NTPC has put in its bid for the Sasan project in MP.
