NTPC plans 2 hydel plants in Arunachal Pradesh

National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has decided to undertake two new hydel power projects totalling 4,500 mw in Arunachal Pradesh.

KOLKATA: National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has decided to undertake two new hydel power projects totalling 4,500 mw in Arunachal Pradesh.

NTPC’s official spokesperson confirmed the development and said: “Top honchos, including the company’s chairman T Sankaralingam, have met top bosses from the state government in Arunachal Pradesh this week where an in-principle decision to this effect was taken.”

The project includes a 4,000 mw hydel power plant at Italin in Arunachal Pradesh. This will be the biggest hydel project undertaken by NTPC, outside the current expansion plans envisaged till ’17. Preliminary estimates put the cost of setting up the hydel power generation station at Rs 20,000 crore.
