NTPC, HWB sign MoU for air pollution reduction technology

NTPC and HWB signed a Memorandum of Understanding for transfer of Ammonia Fuel Gas Conditioning Technology for implementation in all its power stations, including future projects, for reduction in Suspended Particulate Matter.

NEW DELHI: Country's largest power generator NTPC on Wednesday signed an agreement with Heavy Water Board (HWB), Department of Atomic Energy, for implementation of technology to reduce air pollutants at all its power stations.

NTPC and HWB signed a Memorandum of Understanding for transfer of Ammonia Fuel Gas Conditioning Technology for implementation in all its power stations, including future projects, for reduction in Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM), an NTPC statement said.

SPMs are major air pollutants and cause many respiratory diseases including the silicosis.

The MoU also provides for undertaking further research work in collaborative manner with equal participation from NTPC and HWB for enhancing efficiency of AFGC technology.

The MoU was signed here by HWB Director (Operations) Kanthiah W S Aruldoss and NTPC Director (Technical) R K Jain in the presence of NTPC CMD T Sankaralingam and HWB Chairman A L N Rao, the statement added.

NTPC has an installed capacity of 27,904 MW through 26 power stations. It seeks to become a 75,000 MW company by 2017.
