NTPC appoints Gurdeep Singh as Chairman and Managing Director

NEW DELHI: Gujarat State Electricity managing director Gurdeep Singh has been selected as chairman and managing director of NTPC, the country’s largest power producer.

Singh started his career with NTPC as an executive trainee in 1987 and served the company for nine years before switching over to the private sector. He worked with PowerGen for six years and moved to AES India for three years and had short stints with IDFC Projects and CESC.

Singh, a mechanical engineer from REC Kurukshetra, has close to 27 years of experience in the power sector. The appointments committee of the Cabinet approved Singh for NTPC’s top post for a period of five years, an official statement said.
