The indefinite strike by about 14,000 contract workers of Neyveli Lignite Corporation entered the 11th day today, with workers refusing to heed the call of NLC CMD A R Ansari to call it off.

NLC Public Relations Officer Sridhar said the strike has led to a shortfall of 1,050 MW. Power generated was 2,340 MW against the installed capacity of 2,490 MW, he said.

The contract workers are demanding regularisation of services in a phased manner and implementation of 'equal pay for equal work' formula, among other things.

M Sekar, AITUC secretary, Cuddalore, and AITUC Neyveli unit secretary Pal Kuppusamy demanded that the Tamil Nadu government intervene in the matter to settle the issue amicably.
