NHPC pays Rs 9.6 cr to Arunachal

ITANAGAR: The National Hydro Power Corp (NHPC) has given an additional Rs 9.6 crore to the Arunachal Pradesh government towards compensation to people likely to be displaced by the 2,000 MW lower Subansiri hydel project in the state.
Government spokesman Tako Dabi told a press conference here on Friday that the list of people affected by the project was being compiled by the department concerned and the entire amount would be given to them in toto.
NHPC is yet to sign a memorandum of understanding with the state government for the project, billed as the biggest hydro power project in the country.
However, the corporation has started work and spent Rs 1,700 crore on the project, which is embroiled in a case filed by some environmentalists in the Supreme Court.
