Need concerted efforts to tackle sectoral woes: Tata Power

A raft of issues, dominated by fuel scarcity and poor health of electricity distribution companies, continued to hurt the power sector this year.

NEW DELHI: Amid multiple woes facing the power sector, country's largest private electricity producer Tata Power today said concerted efforts are required from all stakeholders to tackle the problems.

A raft of issues, dominated by fuel scarcity and poor health of electricity distribution companies, continued to hurt the power sector this year.

"Energy is the engine that drives the economy and it is in the interest of the country's economic development that the sector is given its due importance.

"There is a need for concerted effort from all the stakeholders towards mitigation of some of the key obstacles hindering the growth of the sector," Tata Power Managing Director Anil Sardana said in a statement.

Sardana noted that the power sector went through a lot of turbulence this year.

"Growing focus on distributed power generation and trading of REC ( Renewable Energy Certificate) in energy exchanges are amongst some of the developments that can usher positive changes in the energy scenario of the country going forward," he said.
